Bliss MD offers physician-led hormone replacement therapy Chicago women and men can start with a free 15-minute call. Hot flashes, poor sleep, weight gain or a fading sex drive? Help is close by.
Dr. Anand Thakkar looks for the cause of your symptoms before he prescribes anything. We see patients in Lincoln Park and at our Schaumburg-area office in Hanover Park.
What We Offer: Hormone Replacement Therapy in Chicago
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) restores hormone levels that have dropped below a healthy range. For women, that often means estrogen and progesterone. For men, it usually means testosterone.
We also check your thyroid, because a slow gland can mimic a hormonal imbalance. Every hormone replacement therapy Chicago treatment plan is built around your labs, symptoms and goals.
Why Choose Bliss MD for Hormone Replacement Therapy in Chicago?
People seeking hormone therapy Chicago options want a doctor who listens. Dr. Thakkar founded Bliss MD and oversees hormone replacement therapy Chicago care at both locations.
- Experience: he has practiced medicine since 2011.
- Board certifications: Internal Medicine (ABIM) and Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine (A4M/ABAARM).
- Menopause training: he is a certified menopause practitioner (MSCP) through The Menopause Society.
- Root cause first: we review sleep, stress and medications first.
BHRT Chicago: Benefits of Bioidentical Hormones
We don’t use synthetic hormones such as horse-derived estrogens or synthetic progestins. Bioidentical hormones have the same structure as those naturally produced by your body.
Many are FDA-approved. Compounded versions are not, so we tell you which kind you get. Your bioidentical hormone replacement therapy Chicago plan starts at a low dose.
For Women
HRT may ease menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and mood swings. It can also help when perimenopause disrupts your menstrual cycle. Explore our menopause and perimenopause treatment in Chicago, or read about perimenopause symptoms.
For Men
Low testosterone can bring fatigue, a lower libido and lost muscle mass. We confirm it with repeated morning blood tests first. Learn how low testosterone and ED are connected.
Thyroid
We read a full thyroid panel, not just TSH, and use bioidentical thyroid hormone when needed.
Personalized, Lab-Guided Bioidentical Dosing
“Bioidentical” describes a hormone’s structure, not its safety. Many FDA-approved products are already bioidentical, including estradiol patches, gels and pills and micronized progesterone capsules. At Bliss MD, hormone replacement therapy Chicago plans use personalized, precision dosing of bioidentical hormones based on your labs, symptoms and goals. Standard commercial doses don’t fit everyone, so Dr. Thakkar builds and monitors a plan that fits you.
Pellets are compounded and can’t be removed once placed, so we use them only after discussing the trade-offs with you. See how FDA-approved and compounded hormones compare. ACOG notes that compounded hormones are not FDA-approved and advises caution when an approved option exists.5
Testing, Including DUTCH
Hormone replacement therapy Chicago dosing starts with detailed blood work. When more detail helps, we add a DUTCH test. It uses dried urine to show how you break down hormones.
Pellets, Creams and Injections
Your hormone replacement therapy Chicago plan can use one of three delivery methods:
- Pellets last 3–6 months but cannot be removed once placed. See testosterone pellet therapy in Chicago.
- Creams go on daily and are easy to adjust.
- Injections are usually given every 1–2 weeks.

Is Our Hormone Replacement Therapy Chicago Program Right for You?
HRT May Suit You If You…
- Have hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, vaginal dryness or low desire that affect daily life
- Are a woman under 60, or within about 10 years of your last period, starting therapy for the first time. The Menopause Society explains why timing matters.
- Are a man with symptoms and low testosterone confirmed on two morning blood tests
- Want a physician-led plan with follow-up labs, not a fixed protocol
- Are already on hormones elsewhere and want a second opinion. Bring your recent labs and current doses.
HRT May Not Be Right If You…
- Have had breast, uterine or prostate cancer
- Have had a blood clot, stroke or heart attack
- Have active liver disease or unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Are pregnant, or (for men) trying to father a child soon
- Want testosterone for bodybuilding or performance
In hormone replacement therapy Chicago visits, each of these starts a conversation. It isn’t an automatic yes or no. Your history and labs decide.

What the FDA's 2025–2026 Hormone Therapy Label Changes Mean for You
For more than 20 years, menopausal hormone therapy labels carried a boxed warning. That is the FDA’s most prominent safety warning, and it led many women to avoid treatment.
On November 10, 2025, the FDA asked the makers of menopausal hormone therapy products to update their labels.3 On February 12, 2026, it approved the first updated labels, for six products.4 More products are following as other companies’ changes are approved.
What Changed
- Statements about cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and probable dementia were removed from the boxed warning.
- The boxed-warning advice to use the “lowest effective dose for the shortest time” was removed.
- Systemic product labels now ask prescribers to consider hormone therapy for moderate to severe hot flashes. This applies to women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause.3
What Did Not Change
- Information about heart disease and breast cancer risk is still in the Warnings and Precautions section of the labels.
- The boxed warning about endometrial (uterine) cancer stays on systemic estrogen-alone products. That’s why women with a uterus also take progesterone.
- These labels cover FDA-approved products. Compounded hormones are not FDA-approved, so they don’t carry FDA labels at all. See bioidentical vs. conventional HRT for how they compare.
What It Means for Hormone Replacement Therapy Chicago Patients
For hormone replacement therapy Chicago patients at Bliss MD, our screening hasn’t changed. Before any prescription, Dr. Thakkar reviews your personal and family history, clot and stroke risk, breast health and the route of therapy. The update makes an honest, individual conversation easier. It doesn’t make hormones right for everyone. Non-hormone choices are in our menopause treatment options guide.
Safety: Side Effects and Who Shouldn't Use HRT
Every hormone replacement therapy Chicago patient reviews the risks with Dr. Thakkar first.
The benefits of HRT usually outweigh the risks for healthy women under 60. This is most true within 10 years of menopause.1 Possible side effects include:
- Blood clots or stroke, with a higher risk from oral estrogen
- Breast tenderness or changes in bleeding
- Acne or unwanted hair growth from testosterone in women
- A higher red blood cell count and lower sperm count in men
HRT may not be right for you after breast, uterine or prostate cancer. A past blood clot, stroke or heart attack is another reason to pause.
Active liver disease and unexplained vaginal bleeding also call for caution. We check your labs on a set schedule, including PSA for men.2

Patient Testimonials
Watch Karen share her story about hormone replacement therapy Chicago care at Bliss MD.
“They took the time to review my labs, listen to my symptoms, and explain what could be improved rather than just telling me everything was ‘within normal range.’ … I’ve noticed such a difference in my energy, mood, sleep, and overall sense of well-being.” — Nikolina K., Google review

Frequently Asked Questions About Hormone Replacement Therapy in Chicago
What does HRT cost at Bliss MD?
It depends on your hormones, delivery method and labs. See our HRT cost guide.
Are bioidentical hormones FDA-approved?
Many are, including several estradiol products. Compounded hormones are not. Learn more in bioidentical vs. conventional HRT.
How do I know if I need HRT?
Symptoms and labs together tell the story. Read about the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause, or low testosterone.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Some patients sleep better within a few weeks. Energy and mood often take 2–3 months.
Do you take insurance?
Hormone care is direct-pay. We provide itemized receipts for HSA/FSA claims.
I searched "hormone replacement therapy near me." Which office should I pick?
Choose whichever is closer. Both offer the same care.
Did the FDA remove the black box warning on hormone therapy?
Partly. In 2025–2026 the FDA removed the heart disease, breast cancer and dementia statements from the boxed warning on menopausal hormone therapy labels. The endometrial cancer warning stays on systemic estrogen-alone products. If you’re weighing hormone replacement therapy Chicago options, we’ll explain what the change means for you.
Can I start HRT if I'm over 60 or more than 10 years past menopause?
Sometimes, but the balance of benefit and risk changes. Dr. Thakkar reviews your heart, clot and breast history in detail, and may suggest a skin patch or gel or a non-hormone option instead.
I'm already on hormones from another clinic. Can you take over my care?
Yes. Bring your recent labs and a list of your current hormones and doses. We’ll review them at your first visit and adjust only if needed.
