15 years of experience · Lincoln Park and Hanover Park · Hormones, pelvic health and PRP in one plan
O-Shot Chicago care at Bliss MD starts with a conversation, not a needle. Changes in desire, arousal or comfort are common, and they’re worth a real medical look.
The treatment itself is a PRP injection (O-Shot). PRP means platelet-rich plasma, made from a small sample of your own blood. Dr. Anand Thakkar pairs every O-Shot Chicago treatment with a review of your hormones, pelvic health, medications and stress. That way your plan fits your body, not a template.

What Is a PRP Injection (O-Shot)?
A PRP injection for women is often called the O-Shot. It uses your own blood, not a drug or a filler. For O-Shot Chicago patients, the steps are simple:
- We draw a small tube of blood, much like a routine lab test.
- A centrifuge spins it to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
- Under ultrasound guidance, the PRP is placed in tissue near the clitoris and along the front wall of the vagina.
Ultrasound lets us see the tissue during the injection, and the practice considers it the preferred approach.
Platelets carry growth factors that take part in normal tissue repair. The idea is to support blood flow and nerve sensitivity in areas tied to arousal and bladder control. That’s the theory; the research section below explains how far the evidence goes.
O-Shot Benefits: What Women Ask About
Women who look into the O-Shot usually hope for one or more of these:
- Easier arousal and stronger sensation
- More natural moisture
- More comfort during intimacy
- Fewer leaks when they laugh, cough or exercise
- A non-surgical step to try alongside hormone care
These are goals, not promises. Some women notice a clear change, some notice a small one, and some notice none. When changes do happen, they tend to build gradually over the following weeks. We’ll check in at your O-Shot Chicago follow-up and talk honestly about what you’re seeing.
What the Research Says About PRP for Women
PRP for female sexual function is not FDA-approved. The studies so far are small, so we treat it as an emerging option.
- A 2023 systematic review pooled 327 women across 12 studies of sexual function and bladder leakage. Scores improved after PRP, but most studies had no comparison group, so the authors rated the evidence as low.
- A 2026 randomized trial gave 52 premenopausal women either one PRP injection or salt water. At six months, 69% of the PRP group reported better sexual function, compared with 35% of the placebo group. No serious side effects were reported.
That’s encouraging, but it’s one small study in younger women. Before any O-Shot Chicago treatment, we’ll tell you plainly what it does and doesn’t show.
A Whole-Person Approach to Female Sexual Wellness in Chicago
Desire and comfort depend on hormones, blood flow, nerves, mood and your relationship. ACOG notes that about 4 in 10 women have sexual problems at some point, often with more than one cause. So O-Shot Chicago care at Bliss MD starts with the whole picture:
- Hormone testing. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, thyroid and cortisol. Learn about menopause treatment in Chicago and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
- Hormone therapy when it fits. Our hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) page explains how we dose from your labs.
- Peptides. PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a separate medicine for low desire; its FDA-approved form is approved only for certain premenopausal women. We don’t combine it with the O-Shot or other treatments without physician guidance.
- Pelvic health. Dryness, pain with sex, pelvic floor tension and bladder leakage all get a careful look. The Menopause Society explains how these change around menopause.
- Everyday factors. Sleep, stress, birth control and antidepressants can all affect desire.
See every option on our sexual health treatments page.
Who May Be a Candidate for the O-Shot?
It may suit you if you…
- Notice lower arousal, sensation or natural moisture
- Have mild leaks when you laugh, sneeze or work out
- Have felt changes after childbirth, perimenopause or menopause
- Want a non-surgical option as part of a broader plan
It isn’t offered if you…
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have an active infection
- Have a bleeding disorder
Your physician reviews your medications, such as blood thinners, and your history at the evaluation. Every O-Shot Chicago candidate gets that review before a plan is made.
What to Expect at Your O-Shot Chicago Visit
Here’s how O-Shot Chicago care works at either clinic:
- Free discovery call. Fifteen private minutes by phone to talk through your goals.
- Evaluation and labs. Dr. Thakkar reviews your history and medications and orders hormone testing.
- Your plan. PRP alone, or PRP alongside hormone care or other options.
- Treatment day. We draw your blood and prepare the PRP. Numbing cream goes on first, Pro-Nox is available if you’d like it, and the PRP is placed under ultrasound guidance.
- Follow-up. Most plans include 3 sessions about 3 weeks apart. Your physician may discuss further follow-up based on your response.

If you use Pro-Nox, any effects wear off quickly, and you can usually drive about 10 minutes after the mask comes off.
Side Effects and Safety
Because PRP comes from your own blood, the main risks come from the injection itself. Side effects after an O-Shot Chicago treatment are usually mild and short-lived:
- Soreness, swelling or a small bruise
- Light spotting
- A brief feeling of pressure or extra sensitivity
Pro-Nox can cause side effects too; any effects wear off quickly once the mask comes off.
Downtime is minimal. For the first couple of days, watch for signs of infection, inflammation or bleeding. Most women can resume exercise and sex after about 48 hours; follow your written aftercare.
Less common risks include infection, bleeding and changes in sensation. Call (630) 289-0440 if you notice fever, spreading redness, heavy bleeding, trouble urinating, or pain that gets worse instead of better.
O-Shot Cost and Payment
We don’t post O-Shot cost figures online, because every plan is individual. Your O-Shot Chicago total depends on your evaluation, your labs, the number of sessions and whether PRP is paired with hormone care or regenerative add-ons.
Bliss MD doesn’t bill insurance. HSA and FSA funds are accepted, and CareCredit financing is available. You’ll know your number before treatment day.
For Couples: The O-Shot and the P-Shot
Intimacy is often shared, and some couples prefer to make a plan together. If you’d like, ask about planning both partners’ visits together. For men, our P-Shot Chicago page covers the PRP option for erections.
Each person gets a separate, private consultation and plan.

What Women Say About Care at Bliss MD
“They took the time to review my labs, listen to my symptoms, and explain what could be improved rather than just telling me everything was ‘within normal range.’ … I’ve noticed such a difference in my energy, mood, sleep, and overall sense of well-being.”

O-Shot Chicago FAQs
What is the O-Shot?
It’s a common name for a PRP injection for women; at Bliss MD, O-Shot Chicago care pairs it with a hormone review. A small amount of your own blood is spun to concentrate the platelets, and that plasma is placed under ultrasound guidance in tissue involved in arousal, sensation and bladder support.
Is the O-Shot FDA-approved?
No. PRP for female sexual function or bladder leakage is not FDA-approved, and the research is still early. We go over what’s known, and what isn’t, before you decide.
What are the O-Shot benefits?
Women usually ask about it for arousal, sensation, natural moisture, comfort during sex or light leakage when they laugh or sneeze. Small studies report improvement for some women. Results vary, and some notice little change.
Does the O-Shot hurt?
Most women get a compounded numbing cream first, and sometimes a stronger compounded lidocaine cream. Many also use Pro-Nox, a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen that you control through a mask. Any effects wear off quickly, and you can usually drive about 10 minutes after the mask comes off.
How many O-Shot sessions will I need?
Most women have 3 sessions, about 3 weeks apart. After that, your physician may discuss follow-up based on how you respond.
Is there downtime?
Downtime is minimal. Watch for signs of infection, inflammation or bleeding, and call us if you notice any. Most women can resume exercise and sex after about 48 hours. You’ll get written aftercare at your visit.
How much does the O-Shot cost?
We don’t post prices, because each plan is individual. Bliss MD doesn’t bill insurance. HSA and FSA funds are accepted, and CareCredit financing is available. Ask for your number on a free 15-minute call.
Can I combine it with hormone therapy or PT-141?
Hormone care is often part of the same plan once your labs are in. PT-141 is a separate medicine, and we don’t combine it with the O-Shot or other treatments without physician guidance.
Where can I get an O Shot near me?
Both Bliss MD clinics offer the same O-Shot Chicago care: Lincoln Park at 2707 N Halsted St in Chicago, and Hanover Park at 1802 Irving Park Rd, on the Schaumburg border. Call (630) 289-0440.
Who should not get the O-Shot?
It isn’t offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an active infection or a bleeding disorder. Your physician reviews your medications, such as blood thinners, and your history at the evaluation.
