The Barrington Road Drive to Hanover Park
For most HRT Barrington patients the trip is simple. Hough Street turns into Barrington Road as you head south from the village. Follow Barrington Road over the Jane Addams Tollway, then turn right onto Irving Park Road and look for 1802. Measured from the Barrington Metra station, the trip is close to 11 miles and takes around 20 minutes when traffic is light. Neighbors in Inverness, Lake Barrington and Barrington Hills have a similar trip.
Blood is drawn on-site, so the visit and your labs happen together. Not every appointment needs the car: after your plan is set, some check-ins happen by video. Commuting downtown by train most days? Our Lincoln Park clinic offers the same hormone care.
What Bioidentical HRT Means at Bliss MD
“Bioidentical” means a hormone has the same molecular structure as the estrogen, progesterone or testosterone your body makes. It describes structure, not safety. Several bioidentical products carry FDA approval; compounded versions do not. Our guide to bioidentical vs. conventional HRT walks through the difference.
For HRT Barrington patients, that translates into four habits:
- Labs and symptoms together. We don’t treat a number alone, and we don’t prescribe without testing.
- A low starting dose, fine-tuned after your first recheck.
- A clear label. You’ll know whether each hormone is an FDA-approved product or a compounded one.
- Optimal, not just normal. We aim for hormone levels that match how you want to feel, while your safety markers stay in range.
Why Barrington Women and Men Ask About Hormones
Many people we see from Barrington lead full, outdoor lives: weekend rides, tennis, hikes, and programs at the Barrington Park District. Hormone shifts tend to show up as that pace starts to feel harder.
Women usually describe hot flashes, broken sleep, brain fog or a sex drive that has quietly faded. Some are in their early 40s with changing cycles; read when perimenopause symptoms deserve a doctor’s visit. Our page on menopause and hormone care for women covers estrogen, progesterone and, for some women, testosterone.
Men tend to mention low energy, a lower libido or muscle that won’t hold. We confirm low testosterone on two morning blood tests before any treatment. There’s also a separate page on Barrington testosterone replacement.
Your First Months of HRT Barrington Care
- Free 15-minute discovery call. Share your symptoms; we’ll say honestly whether hormones are worth exploring.
- First visit, 60 minutes. Dr. Thakkar goes over your health history, medications and family risks, then you complete blood work on-site.
- Your plan. Women may use creams, capsules, troches or pellets, or an FDA-approved patch, gel or micronized progesterone. Men may use pellets, a cream, small injections under the skin, or injections into the muscle.
- Recheck at 8 to 12 weeks. Labs plus how you feel guide any dose change.
Many patients like to read up between visits. The Barrington Area Library is a handy place to borrow books on midlife health.
When Hormones May Not Be the Right Call
Hormone therapy isn’t for everyone. Before any HRT Barrington plan starts, we screen for reasons to wait. Dr. Thakkar takes extra care, and may advise against treatment, if you have had:
- Breast, uterine or prostate cancer
- A blood clot, stroke or heart attack
- Active liver disease or unexplained vaginal bleeding
Pregnancy, or trying to father a child soon, also changes the plan. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advises caution with compounded hormones when an approved option fits, which is why we explain both.
HRT Barrington: Common Questions
Is there a Bliss MD office in Barrington?
No. HRT Barrington care happens in Hanover Park (1802 Irving Park Rd), around 11 miles south, or in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood (2707 N Halsted St).
Do you treat both women and men?
Yes. Women most often come in for perimenopause or menopause symptoms. Men usually come in for low testosterone confirmed on two morning blood tests.
Are bioidentical hormones FDA-approved?
Some are, such as estradiol patches and gels and micronized progesterone capsules. Compounded hormones, including pellets, are not FDA-approved, and we tell you which kind you are getting.
How many trips to Hanover Park should I expect?
Plan on the first visit with blood work, then a lab recheck about 8 to 12 weeks after you start. Some follow-ups can happen by video, so the drive isn’t needed every time.
Pellets or cream: which is better?
Neither is right for everyone. Creams are easy to adjust in small steps; pellets last for months but can’t be removed once placed, so Dr. Thakkar talks through that trade-off before you choose.
Who prescribes my hormones?
Dr. Anand Thakkar, MD, an internist with 15 years of experience. He holds ABIM board certification in Internal Medicine and A4M board certification in anti-aging and regenerative medicine.
Do you take insurance?
Hormone care at Bliss MD is direct-pay. We provide itemized receipts you can use for HSA or FSA claims.
