This page is written for the Fox Valley: the drive, the hormone forms people choose, and how follow-ups work. Our page on hormone replacement therapy in Hanover Park has more about that clinic, and the HRT Chicago guide covers the whole program.

From the Fox River to Irving Park Road
From Main Street in St. Charles, the trip to Hanover Park runs about 14 miles, roughly 25 to 30 minutes outside rush hour. Most routes head north and east to Route 59, then follow Lake Street and Irving Park Road into Hanover Park. Geneva, Wayne and Campton Hills residents make a similar drive.
Blood is drawn during your visit, so there’s no second stop at a lab. Once your dose is settled, some check-ins can happen by video, which saves HRT St. Charles patients a few trips.
Creams, Pellets, Patches: A Side-by-Side Look
The form of a hormone changes how steady your levels are and how easily the dose can move. Distance matters too: a 14-mile drive makes some HRT St. Charles patients lean toward forms that need fewer office visits, while others want the fine control of a daily cream. Dr. Thakkar walks through the choices with you:
| Form | How it’s used | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Compounded cream | Applied to the skin at home | Simple to adjust in small steps |
| Compounded pellets | Placed under the skin in a short office visit; lasts several months | Can’t be taken out once placed |
| Estradiol patch or gel | Applied at home | Bioidentical and FDA-approved |
| Micronized progesterone capsules | Taken by mouth | FDA-approved; protects the uterus when a woman takes estrogen |
| Testosterone injections (men) | Under the skin at home, or into the muscle | Easy to fine-tune |
Compounded forms are not FDA-approved, and your plan will say which kind you have. For a deeper comparison, read bioidentical vs. conventional HRT.
BHRT St. Charles Women and Men Ask Us About
For women, it’s usually perimenopause or menopause: cycles that change in your 40s, night sweats, poor sleep, weight that settles around the middle, or vaginal dryness. Our page on menopause treatment in Chicago explains how estrogen, progesterone and, for some women, testosterone fit together.
For men, it’s fatigue, lower drive and slower recovery. Two morning blood tests confirm low testosterone before anything is prescribed; see low testosterone symptoms.
Plenty of patients simply want their energy back for weekend rides on the Fox River Trail, maintained in part by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. We aim for optimal, not just normal.
What Happens at Your First HRT St. Charles Visit
- Before: a free 15-minute call to check that BHRT is worth exploring.
- During: 60 minutes with Dr. Thakkar covering symptoms, medications, personal and family history, then blood work on-site.
- After: a plan naming each hormone and its form, starting at a low dose.
- Weeks 8 to 12: repeat labs and a dose check.

Safety Screening Comes Before Any Prescription
Every HRT St. Charles plan starts with a safety review. Some histories call for caution or a different plan: breast, uterine or prostate cancer; a past blood clot, stroke or heart attack; active liver disease; or unexplained vaginal bleeding. We review each with you rather than giving an automatic yes or no.
Hormone therapy is outpatient care. Keep your local doctors and hospital, such as Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in neighboring Geneva, for everything else; we’re happy to share your labs with them.
Questions About HRT St. Charles Care
Is the clinic in St. Charles?
No. HRT St. Charles patients visit our Hanover Park clinic at 1802 Irving Park Rd, about 14 miles northeast. Our second clinic is in Chicago’s Lincoln Park.
How long is the drive from downtown St. Charles?
Roughly 25 to 30 minutes to Hanover Park outside rush hour. Lincoln Park is about 40 miles away, a bit over an hour by car.
How is BHRT different from older hormone therapy?
Bioidentical hormones match the structure of your own. We don’t prescribe horse-derived estrogens or synthetic progestins, which were common in older regimens.
Can women take testosterone?
Some women do, at low doses, when symptoms and labs support it. Read more on our female testosterone pellets page; compounded testosterone is not FDA-approved.
How soon will I feel a difference?
It varies. Labs are rechecked at 8 to 12 weeks, and the dose is adjusted to your results and how you feel.
Is BHRT covered by insurance?
Bliss MD is direct-pay for hormone care. You’ll get itemized receipts for HSA or FSA reimbursement.
Who is the doctor?
Anand Thakkar, MD, board certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM) and, through A4M, in anti-aging and regenerative medicine. He earned his MD at B.J. Medical College in India and trained in residency at Chicago Medical School.
