HRT Wilmette patients are seen at our Lincoln Park clinic, 2707 N Halsted St in Chicago, about 11 miles south of the village. Bliss MD has no Wilmette office. Dr. Anand Thakkar treats perimenopause, menopause and low testosterone with bioidentical hormones chosen from your labs, starting with a free 15-minute discovery call.
Much of this page speaks to Wilmette women in perimenopause and menopause. Men will find their part below, and the hormone replacement therapy Chicago guide covers everything in more depth.
Green Bay Road to North Halsted
From the village center near the Wilmette Metra station, take Green Bay Road south into Evanston, continue on Ridge Avenue, then follow Clark Street down to Lincoln Park. It’s about 11 miles, usually 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. Kenilworth is a few minutes farther.
Prefer the train? The Union Pacific North line runs from Wilmette into the city, but it ends downtown, so driving is the more direct route to Lincoln Park. Your labs are drawn at the same appointment. After your dose settles, a few check-ins can be done by video, so the drive isn’t a monthly event.
Perimenopause and Menopause: What HRT Wilmette Women Tell Us
The stories are familiar. Sleep breaks up around 3 a.m. Hot flashes show up in meetings. Periods change without warning, patience runs short, and desire fades. Some women are told their labs are normal and it’s “just your age.”
Those symptoms deserve a real workup. Dr. Thakkar looks at estrogen, progesterone and, for some women, testosterone, along with thyroid function, blood sugar and nutrients. Read about perimenopause symptoms worth a doctor’s visit, or see our full page on menopause and hormone care for women.
Many women also ask about weight and brain fog. Hormones influence metabolism and where the body stores fat, so balancing them can be one piece of a plan, alongside nutrition, strength training and better sleep.
The aim is optimal, not just normal: the dose at which you feel like yourself, confirmed with follow-up labs.
Timing, Safety and Your History
According to The Menopause Society, benefits of hormone therapy usually outweigh risks for healthy women under 60 or within about 10 years of their last period. That’s a starting point, not a rule. If another doctor once told you hormones were off the table, a second look with your records in hand is reasonable. Before prescribing, Dr. Thakkar reviews:
- Personal or family history of breast or uterine cancer
- Any clot, stroke or heart attack
- Liver health and any unexplained bleeding
- The route that suits you, since estrogen through the skin and estrogen by mouth carry different clot risks
Compounded hormones are not FDA-approved. Our article on bioidentical vs. conventional HRT explains when an FDA-approved option may be the better fit.
For Wilmette Men
Fatigue, a lower sex drive and losing muscle despite training can point to low testosterone, or to sleep, thyroid or medication issues. We confirm low testosterone on two morning blood tests before treating. Options include pellets, a cream or small injections, with PSA and blood counts checked over time. More detail is on our testosterone replacement therapy Chicago page. One caution for HRT Wilmette men: testosterone can lower sperm count, so it usually isn’t the right choice if you hope to father a child soon. Ask about other options in that case.
Starting HRT Wilmette Care, Step by Step
- Discovery call (free, 15 minutes) to see whether hormones are worth exploring.
- First visit, 60 minutes: history, symptoms, medications, then blood work in the office.
- Your plan: for women, an FDA-approved patch, gel or progesterone capsule, or a compounded cream, troche or pellet; for men, the forms above.
- Recheck at 8 to 12 weeks, then fine-tuning.
Between visits, many patients stay active with lakefront walks and fitness classes through the Wilmette Park District. Others prefer to read up first; the Wilmette Public Library carries plenty on menopause and midlife health.
HRT Wilmette: Your Questions Answered
Is there an office in Wilmette?
No. Wilmette patients are seen at our Lincoln Park clinic, 2707 N Halsted St, about 11 miles south. We also have a clinic in Hanover Park.
I'm in my mid-40s with irregular periods. Is it too early to ask about hormones?
Not necessarily. Perimenopause often starts in the 40s, and your symptoms plus lab work show whether treatment makes sense now or later.
Is it too late if I'm already past menopause?
Timing matters. The Menopause Society notes the balance of benefit and risk is usually most favorable for healthy women under 60 or within about 10 years of menopause; outside that window, Dr. Thakkar reviews your risks individually.
Why would I need progesterone?
If you have a uterus and take estrogen, progesterone protects the uterine lining. Micronized progesterone is bioidentical and FDA-approved.
Are compounded hormones FDA-approved?
No. Compounded creams, troches and pellets are not FDA-approved. When an approved bioidentical product fits you, we discuss it first.
Do you see men from Wilmette too?
Yes. HRT Wilmette care includes testosterone for men whose low levels are confirmed on two morning blood tests.
How does payment work?
Hormone care is direct-pay, and we provide itemized receipts for HSA or FSA claims. Ask about details on your discovery call.
