P Shot benefits get a lot of hype online. Some clinics make big promises. Others dismiss the treatment. The truth sits in between.
The P-Shot is a PRP penile injection, often called the P-Shot or Priapus Shot. It uses platelet rich plasma (PRP) made from your own blood. PRP is rich in growth factors. At Bliss MD, we give each PRP injection with ultrasound guidance as part of a wider sexual health plan. Learn about our P Shot Chicago care.

How the P-Shot Is Thought to Work
Platelets release growth factors that help tissue repair. Placing them in penile tissue may support:
- Healthier blood vessels and better blood flow
- Nerve and tissue repair
- Firmer, more reliable erections over time
Early research supports this idea, but it is not settled science.
Potential P Shot Benefits Men Seek
Firmer, More Reliable Erections
This is the main reason men ask about a men’s P Shot. Many of our patients report firmer erections that last longer. Results vary, and not every man responds.
Less Reliance on Pills
Some men hope to need ED pills less often, or want an option when pills stop working well.
Peyronie's Disease
Small studies have looked at PRP for the curve caused by Peyronie’s disease. The data are limited, so we discuss it case by case.1
Confidence and Sexual Performance
When erections become more predictable, worry about sexual performance often eases. Be careful with ads about size or enhancing sexual stamina. PRP is not an evidence-based size treatment.
What the Research Says
- Guidelines. The American Urological Association (AUA) considers PRP for erectile dysfunction (ED) experimental.2 It is not FDA-approved for ED.
- A positive trial. In a 2021 trial of 60 men with mild to moderate ED, 69% on PRP reached a meaningful improvement at six months, compared with 27% on placebo.3
- A neutral trial. A 2023 trial of 61 men found no difference between PRP and placebo.4
- Reviews. A 2024 review of 17 studies found small-to-moderate benefits and mild, short-lived side effects.1
Bottom line: the evidence is still emerging, and results vary.
P Shot Benefits vs. Marketing Claims
Ads for the PRP penile injection, often called the P-Shot, can promise more than studies show. Here’s how common claims compare with the evidence.
| Claim you may see | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|
| “Firmer erections” | Possible for some men with mild to moderate ED. Trials are mixed. |
| “Bigger size” | Not supported. PRP is not an evidence-based size treatment. |
| “Pain-free” | We use numbing cream, but most men feel pressure and some soreness afterward. |
| “Results last for years” | Unknown. Studies follow men for months, not years. |
| “Fixes Peyronie’s curve” | Limited data. Small studies suggest it may help pain more than curve. |
| “FDA-approved” | No. PRP isn’t FDA-approved for ED or Peyronie’s disease, and the AUA calls it experimental for ED. |
Realistic P Shot benefits mean more reliable erections for some men. Not every man responds.
When You Might Notice P Shot Benefits
Everyone responds differently, and some men don’t notice a change. When changes happen, they usually follow this pattern:
- First 1–3 days: soreness, mild swelling or bruising. This isn’t a sign of results.
- Weeks 2–6: some men notice firmer morning erections.
- Months 3–6: when clinical trials checked results.
- Month 3 and later: we review your response and decide whether a second treatment makes sense. See P Shot cost for series pricing.

What to Expect: Before, During and After
Before
We start with a medical visit and labs. Tell us about blood thinners and supplements.
During
We draw a small amount of blood and concentrate the platelets. After numbing cream, Dr. Thakkar injects the PRP under ultrasound. The visit takes about an hour.
After
Most men return to normal activities the same day. You may need a short break from sex. Some clinicians also suggest a vacuum erection device (VED). Changes, if they happen, build over weeks to months.

P-Shot Side Effects and Risks
Common side effects are usually short-lived:
- Soreness or tenderness
- Bruising or swelling
- Minor bleeding at the injection site
Less common risks include infection and temporary changes in sensation. PRP comes from your own blood, so allergic reactions are unlikely.
Who May Be a Good Candidate?
The P-Shot is often discussed for men with mild to moderate ED, or men whose pills work less well. If you’re searching for a P Shot for men near me, choose a clinic that checks the causes first. Men with severe vascular disease may need other treatments.
